This Type of Tagline Will Make Your Business Money

Today, I want to share a tip with you that will help you grow your brand online. It’s a simple little something that many entrepreneurs get wrong, but it can have a BIG impact on how much money your business can make.

So, the money question is… how do I write a tagline for my business?

The simplest form of marketing for your business is your tagline, which tells people what your business does.

What is a tagline?

A tagline is a phrase or sentence that communicates the value of your business.

Your tagline is going to be what tells a customer whether or not they need you. Does your business offer them what they are looking for? That is the question that the tagline answers.

Keep in mind, a tagline is different from an elevator pitch. An elevator pitch might be a few paragraphs long, or 30-60 seconds worth of explanation. Today, we are talking about your 2-10 word tagline.

People Remember What They Understand

If your tagline is confusing, it will not be memorable.

Oftentimes, entrepreneurs try to be clever or cute with their tagline in a way that ends up costing them money. “Clever” taglines often create confusion for potential customers, leaving them unclear as to what your business even does.

Above all, you need to make sure that you are clearly communicating what your business does (especially if the name of your business doesn’t communicate this clearly).

For example, my business is my name: Gillian Perkins. Now, my name doesn’t explain what my business does, so my tagline, “Work Less, Earn More” communicates why you might be interested in my brand.

The exception to this principle is if your company name already communicates what you do or provide. For example, if the name of your business is “A1 Plumbing,” it is obvious that you offer plumbing services and there may be some creative room for your tagline.

In this case, your tagline can be used to spark people’s imagination, get them to think, evoke emotion, or differentiate yourself from your competition.

What is your business’s name like?

Is it clear and obvious what you do and what you provide? If so, what feeling do you want to evoke from customers?

Or does your business name depend on the tagline to describe your services and brand? If this is the case, the basis of your tagline needs to answer the question: What does your company do?

Now that you know the kind of tagline that will make your business money, you better be sure that you have a system in place to keep your business’s money organized. To learn how to do your own bookkeeping in just a few minutes a week, check out this video:
